WeRide Recognized Among Top AI Research Scenarios in China

WeRide has been selected as one of the top ten research scenarios in artificial intelligence in China for its autonomous driving deployment in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This recognition highlights WeRide as the only autonomous driving company acknowledged in this initiative, which shows significant international cooperation in AI technologies.

The announcement was made during the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) held in Shanghai, where the National Development and Reform Commission of China unveiled the document titled "AI From China Benefits the World (2026)." This initiative aims to spotlight impactful AI projects that demonstrate how Chinese technology can deliver substantial social and economic benefits globally.

WeRide's robotaxi services, which operate entirely without drivers, have become an integral part of daily transportation in the UAE. The company offers commercial autonomous taxi services in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, allowing passengers to book rides via the Uber platform. As of now, WeRide is the only company outside the United States providing fully autonomous taxi services through Uber.

Since launching its public robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi in 2021, WeRide has established a four-year lead in the UAE market. The company has achieved significant regulatory and commercial milestones, including being the first to receive a national license for autonomous vehicles in the UAE in 2023. This license permits the testing and operation of autonomous vehicles on public roads throughout the country.

WeRide's expansion in the UAE aligns with the country’s long-term transportation strategy, as Dubai aims for 25% of all journeys to be made autonomously by 2030. The operational robotaxi services contribute to improving transportation efficiency and promoting smart mobility in the region.
