Lesotho Launches National Farmers Portal for Digital Registration

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition (MAFSN) of Lesotho has launched the Lesotho Farmers Portal, a national digital platform designed to centralize farmer and land information. This new system is built on the Joget DX Enterprise platform and aims to improve the Ministry's ability to serve farmers across all ten districts of the country.

The portal allows field officers to register farmers and their land parcels while capturing thorough data on households, farming activities, livestock, and available support services. Previously, such information was fragmented, stored in paper files and spreadsheets that were not interconnected. The new system aims to provide a verified and cohesive data source for the Ministry's agricultural community.

According to Selibe Mochoboroane, the Minister of Agriculture, the portal represents a significant advancement in how the Ministry understands and supports its farmers. “We wanted to build a service that could work at a national scale and still be practical for the people using it every day,” he stated during the launch.

Field officers will register farmers using their national identity numbers, which will enable the Ministry to identify each farmer's activities and needs more effectively. This formal registration is expected to help targeted subsidies and the distribution of agricultural inputs, enhancing support for farmers.

The Farmers Portal is not only a tool for registration but also a stepping stone for future agricultural programs. It includes capabilities for program applications, eligibility evaluation, and decision management, which the Ministry plans to introduce as the portal evolves beyond its initial phase.

FiscalAdmin Ltd, the company behind the portal, emphasized that the platform was designed with practicality for public-sector teams in mind. It allows Ministry staff to manage various data aspects without requiring extensive technical support, thus simplifying operations and enhancing efficiency.

The introduction of the Lesotho Farmers Portal is a critical step toward improving agricultural services in the country, providing the Ministry with a thorough view of its farming population. By consolidating data, the Ministry can better address the needs of farmers and plan effective agricultural programs.
