Bybit Payments GmbH Secures E-Money License in Austria
New licensing enables Bybit to enhance payment services in Europe.
Bybit Payments GmbH has received an electronic money institution (EMI) license from the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), allowing the company to offer regulated electronic money and payment services through its platform Bybit.eu. This development marks a significant step for Bybit as it seeks to expand its offerings in the European market.
The EMI license will enable Bybit Payments GmbH to provide various payment services, including electronic money transfers and enhanced payment functionalities. These services will be integrated with existing cryptocurrency-related offerings on Bybit.eu, which are provided by Bybit EU GmbH, a separate entity authorized under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).
Bybit EU GmbH has been licensed to offer cryptocurrency services since May 2025 and operates independently from Bybit Payments GmbH. The distinct regulatory frameworks for these two entities ensure compliance with local laws while allowing customers to access a broader range of services through the same platform.
Georg Harer, Managing Director of Bybit EU GmbH and Bybit Payments GmbH, emphasized the importance of the EMI license, stating, "The granting of the EMI license to Bybit Payments GmbH marks an important milestone in our long-term commitment to Europe." This license is expected to help future payment features, including peer-to-peer payments and open banking solutions.
Bybit Payments GmbH aims to reduce reliance on third-party payment infrastructures by establishing strategic partnerships with financial institutions and payment providers, further bolstering its operational capabilities. The integration of these services is intended to provide a smooth experience for European clients.
More details regarding the launch dates and product deployment across Europe will be announced in the near future. Bybit continues to position itself as a key player in the evolving landscape of digital finance and cryptocurrency services.
